Director of Photography, Cinematographer. Swami Hansa was operating a camera in 1962, the day TV began broadcasting in Dunedin, New Zealand. Hansa has been shooting ever since, his work ranging across natural history, human interest and the arts.
His CV includes many episodes of the long running Heartland, plus such noted docos as Birth, Kiwi – A Natural History, Song of the Kauri and Horizon doco, The Man Who Moved Mountains, made for the BBC and many many more. His Postcard from Afganistan project with Mike King has just been released.
Hansa is the modern day Quixote of the Otago Peninsula, powering his world with windmills. His castle upon the hill is his den of secrets where he polishes his lenses and grooms his beard before another encounter with the filming world. SOTK is a visual testament to his lens craft.
